Study on Removal Behaviour of a Heavy Metal Ions Capturing Agent

Abstract

A novel Heavy Metal ions Capturing Agent (HMCA) was synthesized as follows: Epichlorohydrin polymerization with small molecular amine to obtain a polyamine polymer with certain molecule weight and followed by stem grafted with carbon disulfide. The optimum substrates react ratio was optimized to obtain steady average molecular weight of the polymer and as well as grafted number. The agent synthesized from diethylenetriamine shows better removal performance than those from triethylene tetramine or tetraethylenepentamine. The capture capacity of the agent for Pb(II), Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions was determined by dripping method. The agent shows a removal rate no less than 99% to those ions at a 100 mg/L concentration in solitary or coexisting conditions in waste water. Results showed that, the agent showed the good capturing performance in pH range 6~9, pH 8 was the optimum condition. When apply at 3.5~4.5 mg/L, the treated water could reach the national discharge standards.
