Synthesis and Surface Activities Screening of a Multifunctional Cationic Surfactant

Abstract

Quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants are widely employed in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries and in many applications. To develop new functional quaternary ammonium cationic surfact-ant, a new cationic surfactant 2-Hydroxy-3- (Ethyl Glycolate)-N,N-Dimethylpropan Aminium Chloride (HECA) was synthesized and characterized. The conditions of in the quaternization reaction were investigated including the temperature, reaction time, and molar ratio. The Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) and foamability and foam stability were evaluated, and the results showed that it reaches to 32.1 mN/m at the concentration of 1×10-3 mol/L, the mi-nimum surface tension was around 28.9 mN/m beyond 1×10-2 mol/L. The foam foamability and foam stability measurement are consistent with those of CMC. The structure of the foam was investi-gated as well.

Comparative Study of Cd2+ Ions Sorption by Both Lewatit TP 214 and Lewatit TP 208 Resins: Kinetic, Equilibrium and Thermodynamic Modelling

Abstract

This comparative study investigated the pre-concentration/separat-ion procedure for the solid phase extraction of trace cadmium ions by both Lewatit TP 214 and Lewatit TP 208 resins in batch process. Lewatit TP 214 is a macroporous chelating ion-exchange resin havi-ng thiourea as functional groups in a polystyrene-divinylbenzene matrix, while Lewatit TP 208 is a weak acidic, macroporous cation exchange resin with the iminodiacetate functional groups in a poly-styrene-divinylbenzene matrix. The pre-concentration procedure was optimized by using model solutions containing cadmium ions. The influences of experimental parameters like: pH, time reaction, initial Cd2+ concentration and ionic strength were investigated. The results obtained show that extraction yield of Cd2+ sorption decrea-ses in acidic me-dium. Lewatit TP 208 shows high affinity towards Cd2+ than Lewatit TP 214. The maximal sorption capacity was found to be 81.75 mg/g and 308.65 mg/g for Lewatit TP 214 and Lewatit TP 208 respectively under optimum conditions. The Cd2+ uptake process followed the pseudosecond-order rate expression for both resins. The equilibrium isotherm for sorption of the investigat-ed metal ions has been modelled successfully using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm, respectively onto Lewatit TP 214 and Lewatit TP 208 resins. Thermodynamics data leads to exothermic process for the sorption of Cd2+ ions by both resins. Thermodynamic study shows also a negative ∆G values, indicates that the sorption process of Cd2+ ions is spontaneous.

Formation of New Inclusion Complexes Depend on Cyclodextrin

Abstract

Cyclodextrin is playing its role in a variety of applications, such as polymers, analytical chemistry, food, cosmetic and toiletry product-ion, agricultural industries, as catalysts in chemical reactions and pharmaceutical applications. Also, mechanically interlocked molec-ules such as rotaxanes, pesudorotaxanes and catenanes got large attentions in industrial field, as molecular electronics, the construct-ion of molecular machines and devices and in nanotechnology field. The rotaxanes and pesudorotaxanes, which are dependent on cyclo-dextrins, have intensively studies. In this work [2] rotaxanes contai-ning cyclodextrin are prepared. The newly synthesized compounds were established by their spectral data.
